Business innovation: the office of the future

Innovation is in every corner of business. Thanks to the speed that technology advances, it becomes easier to run businesses successfully every day. Business offices are no exception. The office of the future may look different to how you’re currently working. So, if you want a more productive workspace, here’s what you need to know.

No Assigned Seating

Technology has allowed us to work from any given device. Your laptop, phone, tablet and even your watch can answer emails these days. That means workers don’t have to be tied down to one particular desk. Workers may voluntarily want a space dedicated to them, but it doesn’t mean they have to stay in it all day. Your workers may want to spend time on the visitors’ sofa one afternoon or take their tablet to the dining hall the next. Encourage your workers to get up and move around if it makes them more productive.

Rearrangeable Desks

If your workers choose to work at a desk space, the desks should be easy to maneuver. Recently, designers have come up with office desks that work like jigsaw puzzles, like those seen in the Skullcandy offices in Switzerland. Workers can sit wherever they are most comfortable and when it comes to collaborating with colleagues, the desks can be configured in a way that seats everyone, similar to a board room. The desks are versatile and conducive to a creative atmosphere.

Relaxing Rooms

There is a lot more emphasis on employee’s mental and physical health these days. Employers are learning that the healthier their employees are, the higher quality of work is produced. That’s why many companies are starting to create rooms dedicated to de-stressing during work time. It could be a room with a lunchtime Yoga class, a music room where employees get to sing, play drums or any other instrument available or somewhere employees can go to just have some quiet time. One room was set up with infrared panels to keep employees warm, blankets and books.

Pets in the Office

Did you know that stroking a dog every day can dramatically decrease your risk of high blood pressure? Many businesses are realizing the benefits of having pets around the office. Well behaved pets can make all the difference to how employees work. For example, dog owners who bring their dogs to work don’t have to worry about leaving them home alone and they don’t have to take time off work if pets become ill or have to go through routine surgeries, like being spayed.

Plants

It’s always been a well-known fact that plants can have a positive effect in a working office. However, recent research shows that having plants around can increase productivity by up to 15%. They don’t just help to circulate and cleanse the air thus increasing brain power in employees, but they also reduce stress levels by encouraging a relaxing environment.

Any of these innovative office designs could change the way your office works for the better.
