How becoming a freelance writer can make you rich, not poor

Writer’s tend to get a bad wrap. We’re poor. We’re hard to work with. We’re dreamers. Unrealistic. However, gone are the days where this really was the case. Okay, so maybe some writers are hard to work with. And some are dreams and even a little unrealistic. But one thing’s for sure, writer’s are certainly not all poor. In fact, there are many, many writers that are rich. Millionaires, even. Because the way in which we write has changed. And the way in which we work has changed. It’s definitely a career you can have a lot of success in – if you want. So when it comes to income and your earning potential, the world is your oyster. If you want to make a lot of money, you can. Here’s how.

1. Think Rich

The first step here is for you to get yourself into the right mindset. Because if you want to make money with a business venture, you have to think rich and believe that you can make the money. It may help you to start acting and feeling like the professional (and rich) writer you want to become.

2. Brand Yourself

Next, you need to make sure that you’re looking professional too. The best way to do this is to create a brand for yourself. When you have a branded website, you’ll look like the professional, expert, and talented writer that you are. And not only that, if you work with experts, such as HC Media, to create your site and aid with marketing, you will have a professional image down. Then, you can charge accordingly.

3. Prove Your Worth

Then, it’s time to get to work. And you need to really work on this. Make sure that you have clips and pieces of writing to showcase – even if you have to write for free first to get them. Your site should sell you enough, but adding a blog is another way to show off your skills and writing. You need to demonstrate why you’re so great and prove that you’re worth the rates you charge.

4. Set Your Rates Right

The next step is to make sure that you’ve valued yourself appropriately. All too often, we underprice ourselves. We worry about not getting hired or overcharging – or we feel like an imposter. But this isn’t right. If you know that you’re worth what you’re asking for, then charge it! Working out your freelance hourly rate can be hard. But if you know that you provide value, you’re on the right track.

5. Know Where You’re Going

Then, the final step is to know where you want to take this. And think big – dream big! Set out the goals that you are going to achieve. And know how. If you want to earn a certain amount, work out how you’re going to do it. If you’re planning on writing a book or launching a business off of the back of your writing, you also need to know how you’re going to do that. When you have a plan of how this is going to be successful, then all you have to do is take the right actions and it will happen for you.
