How to conduct a client meeting when running a business from home

Client meetings are a very important part of business and it’s vital that you get them right. You need to make a good first impression on your clients because if you don’t, it’s very hard to come back from and you probably won’t close that deal. That isn’t too hard for big companies that can invite clients to their luxury office space and show off their success, but what if you’re running a business from home? Inviting a client to your house for a meeting doesn’t exactly scream success and it can put a lot of people off. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t run successful client meetings just because you operate the business from home, you just need to know how to get it right. These are the best client meeting tips for home businesses.

Consider Renting A Space

If you really want to impress a client, inviting them to your home isn’t always the best choice, especially if you’ve got family running around the house and the space is a bit chaotic. It might be better to look at conference room hire instead. You can meet the client in a professional space that is set up for presentations and meetings and it makes you look more legitimate than it would if you just met them at home. It also shows the client that you’re willing to invest a bit of money in this relationship and that’s always a good sign.

Meet For Lunch

Another option is to meet them for lunch somewhere instead of in a more formal setting, however, this does depend on the client. If they’re the kind of person that likes to do business in a more relaxed way, that’s fine. But if they like things professional and formal at all times, taking them out to lunch isn’t always the best way. Regardless of what you decide to do, it’s important that you’re upfront with them and you explain that you run the business from home and it’s not the ideal place for meetings so you’re going to meet them elsewhere.

Meeting Them At Home

Meeting them at the house is a possibility as long as you do it right. The first thing to remember is that you still need a professional place to meet, you can’t just sit them down on the lounge. That’s why you need a proper home office set up away from the rest of the house. It’s also best to conduct the meeting while nobody else is at home so there are no distractions, otherwise, you may look very unprofessional.

You also need to consider the front of the house itself because if it looks run down and badly maintained, the client will assume that you’re not doing very well for yourself and they’ll start to question whether your business is any good or not. A simple coat of paint and a bit of garden maintenance will fix that.

Conducting a successful client meeting when you run a business from home is tough, but it’s not impossible if you follow these basic rules.
